Chapter 3

The Last Confession

Previous Chapter List
The dawn was a cruel whisper as Maya knelt amidst the ruins, her fingers trembling over the torn edges of her father’s journal. Every word inked in trembling script screamed betrayal, obsession, and secrets too terrible to name. Cal’s voice was a distant echo, ghosting behind her: "You’re the key. The one who can end this nightmare or unleash it forever." Maya’s mind was a maelstrom — memories of childhood laughter now twisted into screams, shadows that clung to every corner of her thoughts. The forest outside roared with unseen fury, branches clawing at shattered windows like desperate fingers. "I never believed it," she whispered to the empty chapel. "That my father’s research invited darkness home." Cal stepped forward, the morning light catching the haunted hollows beneath his eyes. "You have to choose — trust the curse, or fight it. But beware: in this game, betrayal wears the friend’s face." Suddenly, the floor creaked beneath their feet and a figure emerged from the shadows — the mayor of the abandoned town, his smile like a razor slicing through the dawn. "I always hoped you’d be the one," he crooned, eyes glittering with malice. "But it’s too late to turn back." Maya’s breath caught as the pendant pulsed fiercely, binding her fate with the forest’s dark heart. The last confession loomed: to surrender to the whispers or fight alone in a world that had already forgotten her. The chapel doors slammed shut, and the shadows pressed in, waiting for her choice.
