Echoes of the Forgotten Pact

Rain hammered the rooftops of the rebel encampment as Elara limped through the mud-dripped tents, the weight of her secret burning a hole in her soul. "You summoned the Nightfire," the elder mage said, eyes narrowed, voice thick with accusation. "Forbidden magic has a price, apprentice." Elara’s jaw clenched as she echoed his grim warning, "The price I pay is less than what the Order’s betrayal deserves." The air was heavy with rain and tension; the scent of wet leather and smoldering firewood lingered. Her closest friend, Kael, approached cautiously, concern etched in every line of his face. "You’re slipping away from us. This obsession with vengeance will destroy you." "Or it will save us," Elara shot back, voice fierce, eyes blazing with desperation. "I have no choice. They took everything—my family, my honor." Kael reached out, but she recoiled, the phantom weight of betrayal anchoring her heart. "I don't know who to trust anymore." Suddenly, a stealthy rustle at the camp’s edge scattered the guards. Shadows moved, darker than night itself. Elara's breath caught as a figure emerged—one she never expected to see again. "You’re alive," she whispered, the shock rooting her in place. The stranger’s smile was cold, merciless. "The pact was never broken, Elara. But your choices may doom us all." The sky cracked with thunder as old alliances crumbled, and Elara faced a betrayal that would force her to choose between survival and sacrifice.
