Chapter 2

Echoes of the Forgotten

Previous Chapter ListNext
Whispers followed Eliza as she ventured deeper into Black Hollow. Each step on the cracked pavement seemed to echo the town’s forgotten sorrows. She met Father Grayson by the old well, his eyes clouded but sharp. "You’ve brought the past with you," he murmured. "It’s alive here, Eliza. And it’s hungry." Her hands shook, gripping the worn leather of the journal she’d found in her grandmother’s attic — pages thick with cryptic notes and drawings of twisted figures. "What happened here?" she asked. He hesitated, voice dropping to a whisper. "A darkness settled when the town buried its sins. Lies, betrayals... The Hollow feeds on them." The air thickened with the metallic scent of old blood as distant howls sliced the night air. Eliza’s resolve hardened. She wasn’t running this time. Suddenly, a child’s laughter bubbled from the shadows, light and brittle — but the face that emerged was a void, a black hole where innocence should be. "Help me," it whispered, reaching out with fingers like branches. Eliza screamed, stumbling back into the tavern’s dim light. Behind the counter, old Tom chuckled darkly. "You see it now," he said. "The Hollow waits. And it has plans for all of us." The door slammed shut, and the walls seemed to close in, trapping her in a web of ancient horrors and new betrayals. Outside, the fog thickened. The town’s breath was slow, heavy, and hungry for revenge.
