Lights flashed ahead—police?—but was it salvation or another trap? The alley's end was a dead-end—no escape left. Emma spun, heart hammering, as footsteps closed in from behind and in front. The sting of betrayal cracked open her world. The man in front smiled coldly. "No witnesses left behind," he whispered. Emma's scream was cut off by a single, echoing shot.
