Chapter 1
Ashes in the Silent Forest
The wind howled like a beast betrayed, tearing through the skeletal branches of the silent forest. Elara's breath came in ragged gasps, sharp against the chill night air. Her fingers, trembling but determined, clutched the jagged amulet glowing faintly against her chest. Behind her, the snap of a twig echoed—too deliberate to be the forest's whisper.
"You can't run from what's inside you," a voice hissed from the shadows, sharp and venomous. Elara spun, eyes blazing, a flash of defiance igniting her every movement. "I said... leave me be!" she spat, muscles coiled to strike if necessary.
The figure stepped forward—a man cloaked in darkness, eyes flickering with unnatural fire. "The gods have forsaken you," he sneered, voice layered with contempt and something darker—obsession.
Elara's pulse thrummed like a war drum. Behind her ears, the amulet pulsed warmer, alive with a power she barely understood, yet had learned to fear. "Forsaken or not, I'll fight," she whispered, breath misting in the cold air. "Not for them... for me."
The man laughed, a sound void of humor. "Then prepare to be consumed, child of shadows."
A sudden blaze ignited between them, an explosion of fire and bone, and the forest seemed to hold its breath. As embers danced like lost souls, Elara realized the fight was far from over—it had only just begun.
The silent forest now echoed with the promise of betrayal, and somewhere deep in the shadows, a secret waited to rip the world apart.
