Chapter 2
Whispers in the Ruins
Jade’s breath caught as she stepped into the crumbling hall, shadows dancing along the ancient walls etched with faded glyphs. "This place... it’s alive," Malik murmured, tracing a delicate finger over the stone.
"Alive with secrets," Jade agreed, her eyes scanning for traps or clues. The air smelled damp, tinged with moss and the faintest trace of burnt incense.
Suddenly, a sharp click echoed, and the floor shifted beneath them. "Move!" Jade yelled, grabbing Malik’s arm as a hidden pit yawned open where they had stood moments before.
Heart hammering, they pressed deeper into the maze of corridors. Every whisper seemed to carry a warning, every shadow hiding threats unknown. Jade's mind raced. Could the legends be false? Was this ruin a death trap or salvation?
A sudden voice, soft yet menacing, brushed against her ear: "You should not have come here."
Spinning around, Jade faced an enigmatic figure cloaked in shadow. "Who are you?" she demanded.
"Guardian... or betrayer?" The figure’s smile twisted darkly. "Your choices will reveal the truth."
Betrayal flickered in Jade’s mind, a seed planted deep and uneasy. As the ruins closed in, and the secrets whispered louder, Jade realized the cost of truth could be far greater than she imagined.
