Chapter 3

Nebula’s Reckoning

Previous Chapter List
The Helios pierced the swirling mists of the outer nebula, its hull creaking under the pressure of unseen forces. Outside the viewport, the luminous clouds shifted like ghostly waves, casting eerie reflections on the bridge’s steel. Captain Aria Sloan stood rigid, senses sharpened to a painful edge. "Sensors picking up multiple energy signatures ahead," warned Lieutenant Mara, voice tight. "No ship transponders, but definitely not natural phenomena." The air felt thick, charged with danger. Aria’s fingers tapped rapidly on the console, trying to penetrate the thick veil of cosmic interference. "Prepare all systems for potential combat," she ordered, heart hammering. "Keep your eyes open for traps." Suddenly, an explosion rocked the ship, sending a shower of sparks cascading from the overhead panels. "Impact on starboard side!" Engineer Walsh yelled, battling to stabilize the faltering power grid. Through the chaos, a new horror emerged—a figure on the comms, familiar yet cruel. "Welcome to your reckoning, Captain," the voice sneered. "Did you really think your crew was loyal? Your people, safe?" A cold fury seared through Aria’s veins as she realized the truth: the traitor had never left and was sowing devastation from within. "Seal off the lower decks," Aria commanded, voice steel and fire. "Find that betrayer before it’s too late." As the ship plunged deeper into the nebula’s heart, the walls seemed to close in—voices whispered in the shadows, alliances shattered, and trust dissolved into fear. Amid swirling stars and deadly silence, Aria faced an impossible choice: sacrifice her crew to save the galaxy or lose everything to the darkness that sought to consume them all. The nebula awaited its judgement, and the echoes of betrayal roared louder than any starship gunfire.
